Restore Clean Water Act Protections

What's New

On June 18, the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee approved the Clean Water Restoration Act (S.787) to ensure that all of our rivers, streams and wetlands are once again protected from polluters.

Now we are working to get a similar bill introduced in and passed through the House.

How You Can Help

Tell your representative in the U.S. House to make sure that our rivers are protected by the Clean Water Act.

Background

Our rivers are worth protecting

Iowa's rivers are irreplaceable -- providing us with drinking water and adding beauty to our lives.

But recent Supreme Court decisions gutted 30 years of protections provided by the Clean Water Act, effectively writing an estimated 62 percent of Iowa's streams -- sources of drinking water for 600,000 Iowans -- right out of the law.

When the rivers provide us with so much, why on earth are we letting polluting industries dump into the streams that feed them?

Our rivers need our help

Iowa's major rivers can only be as clean as the streams and wetlands that clean and feed them. Environment Iowa is working to restore the protections that have been jeopardized.

But big polluters and their allies in Congress are trying to stop us, so we're calling on our state's congressional delegation to stand up for our rivers by supporting the Clean Water Restoration Act.
