I want to first thank you for your continued support of Environment Iowa.

As I write this letter, Environment Iowa is actively advancing a number of initiatives to protect our environment at the state Legislature. As you can read in this newsletter, we’re working hard to protect our waterways from factory farm pollution, harness more clean, homegrown energy, and find solutions to global warming. By the time you receive this newsletter, the legislative session will have concluded and I hope many of our initiatives have, or will soon, become law.

In addition to the state Legislature, we are building support in Congress to strengthen the Clean Water Act, promote clean energy, and pass the strongest possible global warming legislation—the Safe Climate Act. In recent weeks, Alana Stamas, Environment Iowa’s field organizer, and I have each visited with many of Iowa’s congressional members and their staff. We are encouraged by these visits, but know much work lies ahead.

In the coming summer months, we will change the venue of our work from the Statehouse to the towns and cities across Iowa. Our door-to-door canvass is central to Environment Iowa’s success—it’s a time to have a conversation with you, to learn about your priorities, to share our successes and upcoming challenges, and to gather the resources necessary to continue our work.

By engaging members like you, we can build the support for decision-makers in Iowa and in Washington, D.C., to act in favor of the environment, rather than the powerful interests that stand in the way of real change. Thanks in advance for welcoming an Environment Iowa canvasser at your doorstep this summer.
