Solar rising in Iowa

What kind of potential does solar energy hold for our future? The sun provides the Earth with as much energy every hour as humanity uses every year. Iowa actually has more solar power potential than most. Our state averages more than four peak sun hours per day. Germany, a global leader in solar energy, receives only two peak sun hours a day. If we set the right goals, standards and incentives, Iowa can and should become a leader in solar energy development and generation, creating new green jobs in the process.

That’s why we’re working to fast-track solar development at the state and federal levels. Environment Iowa’s partner groups are supporting projects across the country. PennEnvironment helped secure a $180 million investment; Environment Colorado helped make it easier for homeowners to sell excess solar power back to their utility companies; and Environment Texas aims to install 4,000 megawatts of solar power in the next decade.
