Feeling the heat in Iowa
“Throw out the record books because global warming is raising temperatures in Iowa and across the country,” said Andrew Hug at a release of Environment Iowa’s “Feeling the Heat” report in October. In 2007, the average temperature was above normal by 1.6 F in Des Moines, 2.1 F in the Quad Cities, 1.1 F in Dubuque, and 0.9 F in Waterloo. Nights were warmer by 2.2 F in the Quad Cities and by 1.9 F in Des Moines.
To address this warming, Reps. Leonard Boswell (Des Moines), Bruce Braley (Davenport) and Dave Loebsack (Cedar Rapids) endorsed strong principles for action on global warming and energy. Environment Iowa urged that those principles be the blueprint for action for the next president and Congress. “We commend Reps. Boswell, Braley and Loebsack for their leadership on this critical issue,” said Hug.
